Yesterday, after my training, I meet my parents at JE as my dad needs to drive 3 of his China colleagues back to their office cum home.
I just grabbed a waffle and a cup of soy bean drink with grass jelly for my lunch and bought 2 folded umbrellas (1 for my mum and 1 for me).
When I finally met with my parents, they went choosing and buying reading glasses. After which, my dad drove us back.
He asked me to go home to detach the PC in my study room and we'll bring to Sim Lim Square to try to find out the problem.
On the journey back, he also told me that he 'bought' a Sony Laptop at $2k+. Well, Actually not he buy. His colleague wants to buy and don't have a credit card to pay by installment. So my dad kind of lent him the card. (Hope that colleague is trustable!)
When we reached Sim Lim, we went straight to the shop that we went to before. Upon looking at the PC parts, the guy said that our RAM is faulty and is too low for our system. After changing that and switched on the system, he said our Windows is faulty also. And to change 2x 256MB RAM cost $60. Service charge for everything $30. Change window to XP Home edition cost $140. And I told him about the CD-writer and after checking he said that is faulty too. And to change that into a DVD-ROM cum CD-Writer cost another $35. He said that our mother board and etc are still in good condition and that he can see that we seldom use the PC and it is still very clean. Since that is what he said, we let him changed as we would not need to spend too much.
While he was doing some work, he then realized that our graphic card is going faulty too. And to changed that, it cost think $80. OMG!!! I was like thinking in my heart. What is this? Why there is more to be added. From servicing fee of around $300 will become around $400? Will there be more problem?
Anyway, after that graphic card, he did not find anything else faulty so it was done and when he did the invoicing, he forgot the CD-writer. So in total, we paid like $310 to get the PC working again.
After dinner, we went over to HN as my parents saw tt morning that there is a 42 inch TV costing around slightly over $2k. They want to get it via installment but as they had to pick me up, they did not buy at that time.
So this time, we went to a HN branch nearer to us thinking that all these shop should be selling same item at same price and same promotion. Apparently, they are not. And this time the salesman that served us try to bargain for us a good price and a good deal for a much better TV.
I was in shock actually when I see the way that we can try to bargain and they way they try to get us good price when I thought HN like other main electrical shops should be selling at nett price.
In the end my parents decided to get that TV at $3k+. I don't know what to say so I just kept quiet the whole time. Since my parents were the one deciding, I do not want to say more already. I was just hoping what ever they are getting is worth the money.
My parents want to pay via installment and as my dad had already used his credit card that morning spending $2k+ on the Laptop plus he still got other things to pay from the credit card, he do not have enough to pay the full amount. The cashier help to maximize the amount to pay via credit card to $3.4k and my dad (or I should say my mum) still got to fork out another $100+. Think my mum will be the one paying for the TV.
I guess this is the first time that we can spend so much in a day and that my dad even exceeded the limit of his credit card. OMG!!!
